Seat of War – 1777

This reproduction of a scarce Revolutionary War map titled “Seat of War in the Environs of Philadelphia” measures 10.75″ x 8.25″. It was created by Thomas Kitchin, Hydrographer to His Majesty, the King of England.

Originally published for London Magazine in 1777, clearly the intent to inform the British public about the campaign of Sir William Howe. Map area includes Pennsylvania, western New Jersey, Maryland and Delaware and shows many important roads including Lancaster Road, as well as the Delaware River and the Chesapeake Bay, villages, creeks and roads in the Philadelphia region.
